The Awesome Alpha, Estes' top-notch rocket, is an unparalleled choice for both novice and seasoned student rocketeers. Equipped with essential features, such as balsa wood fins, a molded nose cone, an engine mount, parachute recovery, and self-stick decals, the Alpha is the ideal rocket for demonstrating fundamental principles of stability. Boasting an aerodynamic design and renowned reliability, this versatile launcher can accommodate a wide range of engines, from Estes A to C types.
When your students construct the Awesome Alpha, they will not only acquire valuable modeling skills but also experience the teamwork and safety aspects of rocketry. To ensure a complete flight profile and successful recovery, we recommend using the A8-3 engine for school launches, allowing students to witness the entire journey.
To launch this remarkable rocket, you will need the Porta-Pad II launch pad and Electron Beam launch controller, both sold separately. However, with the right tools and materials, your students can easily build and launch the Alpha, unlocking a world of STEM-based exploration and discovery.
The building process requires the following items: scissors, pencil, ruler, fine sandpaper, carpenter's glue, hobby knife, masking tape, white primer, white paint, red paint, and blue paint. (Tools, construction, and finishing supplies are not included.)
For the launch, in addition to the Porta-Pad II and Electron Beam, you will need Estes model rocket engines, starters, and recovery wadding. Four high-quality 1.5V AA alkaline batteries are also required for the launch controller.
